MIOSHA AND CENTRAL MICHIGAN MANUFACTURING ASSOCIATION

SIGN ALLIANCE TO PROTECT WORKERS

June 2019 – Mt. Pleasant, MI – The Central Michigan Manufacturing Association (CMMA) and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) signed a second Three Year Alliance, to provide training opportunities to help participants recognize manufacturing hazards and learn how to solve jobsite problems in a safe and productive manner. MIOSHA is part of the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).

“We are pleased to extend our alliance with CMMA to protect our working men and women,” said MIOSHA Senior Occupational Safety Consultant, Brian Kellogg. “This alliance offers great opportunities to share best practices, to provide unique training opportunities and to help create safer and healthier workplaces throughout Michigan.”

The Alliance continues to formalize the working relationship between CMMA and MIOSHA to provide enhanced awareness of worker safety and health of members through banners, promotion of training opportunities, and allowing access to member sites for the Consultation Education & Training (CET) Division to conduct job site safety and health consultation visits. This Alliance will promote regular CET safety and health consultation visits, as CET staff is available.

Signing the renewal alliance were: Executive Director of the CMMA, Harry Leaver, MIOSHA Senior Occupational Safety Consultant, Brian Kellogg, and CMMA Safety Special Interest Group Chair, Rocky Dowell.

The purpose of this Alliance is to increase worker awareness and safety and health protection on CMMA member worksites. The intention is to solicit CMMA membership to voluntarily participate in the alliance. Each member who participates will be placed on a list to allow MIOSHA CET consultants to conduct a safety and health consultation visits. Participating contractors will have an “open-door” policy for CET staff to conduct consultation.

“The CMMA clearly recognizes the opportunities the Alliance agreement give our central Michigan manufacturers to increase the emphasis, dialog, and tools needed to improve safety on the shop floor,” said CMMA Executive Director, Harry Leaver. “This 3-year renewal agreement further enhances our Safety SIG’s ability to provide effective training resources, on site consultation, hazard surveys, and MIOSHA’s assistance on special projects.”
