The Central Michigan Manufacturers Association (CMMA) is proud to announce the winners of the 2021 Scholarship Challenge.  This year the competition was particularly fierce and deciding the winners was difficult.  In the end three individuals were selected to each receive a $2,500 scholarship to the college or university of their choice.  Note the CMMA usually chooses two recipients but made an exception this year because of the impressive qualifications of these three applicants.

Here are the winners and a little information about each of them:

  • Olivia Ostrander is attending Central Michigan University and is entering her Junior year.  Her field of study is Human Resources.  Olivia works at member company Powell as an administrative assistant, is a graduate of Breckenridge High School and has also earned an associate degree in Business from Mid-Michigan College.
  • Seth Wilson is attending Central Michigan University and is entering his Junior year.  His field of study is Mechanical Engineering Technology.  Seth’s parents work for CMMA member companies American Mitsuba and J.D. Metalworks.  He is extremely interested in additive manufacturing and hopes to be involved with it as his career progresses.
  • Sarah Kepner is attending Cedarville University in Ohio, where she is entering her sophomore year.  Her field of study is mechanical engineering.  Sarah’s father works at member company  Michael Engineering.  Her career goal is to complete her engineering education and then work in either the aerospace or automotive industry for a few years, eventually returning to work with her father in the family business.

We look forward to watching the impact these individuals will make as they complete their education and become future leaders in the manufacturing community.

The CMMA Scholarship Challenge has been an annual event for the past ten years.  Each year it gets more attention from applicants as well as from supporters.  If you know of a high school senior or college student that has a relative working at any CMMA member business or someone that is currently employed at a member business and is interested in pursuing an education in any field that fits in with a manufacturing business, encourage them to apply next year.   The application window is typically April and May.  Communications about next year’s competition will commence in February/March.
